Profile:Damien Martyn burst onto the international stage back in 1992-93 as a brash youngster, and his inability to temper his youthful exuberance led to a seven year hiatus in his Test career. In his seventh Test, a rash shot resulted in him losing his place in the team as he was unfairly blamed for a 5-run loss to South Africa at the SCG. He finally regained his spot in 2000, and didn’t disappoint as he plundered 241 runs at 60.25 and has never looked back. Has since scored twelve Test centuries, earned the title of Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2002, and cemented a place in Australia's elusive batting order for five years. Some of the more memorable Martyn knocks include an unbeaten 88 (84) in the 2003 World Cup Final with a broken finger, and stellar back-to-back hundreds on the tour of Sri Lanka in early 2004. Dropped from the Australian Test side at age 33 after a lean Ashes series in which he managed only 178 runs at 19.77, it remains to be seen whether the man imaginatively dubbed 'Marto' will add to his tally of 61 Tests - Jono Russell (September 2005).
